International Arts Comes to NYC At The Armory Show

 

This is the time of the year where New York becomes the Arts and Culture capital that is has always touted to be.  The ARMORY SHOW, the pinnacle of gallery week in New York has really lifted the bar even higher this year.  The lounge areas are like being in a Museum. They are wonderful.  The global art world is represented here in all of it glory, wonder and awe.  I was very happy to see Jonathan Boos Gallery dedicate its whole exhibit on Jacob Lawrence!  Jacob Lawrence was one of artistic visionaries of our time. His art is based in Cubism and is influenced also by his living in Harlem, New York. His work jumps off the canvas! Such great colors and feeling.  There are many artist of color that are being featured in the show and I am very happy about it. Its all about culture and art is a part of our culture the same as music, theater, dance and I can add food. They flow into one another. That is why the Harlem Renaissance was so powerful. It included all and more of these art forms and from there some of greatest art and artist, writers, speakers of our time were created.  There are several more art things going on in the city this week including the Park Avenue Arts show, MODA has special events going and and all of the galleries in the city are having special open houses and events.

This leads me into saying, we really need to support our artists everyone. As in Egypt, Greece, Rome, China; every culture lead with its artists. Artist told the story of the time; we must not forget that.  I am a collector of art myself. There are many ways you can become an art collector. You dont have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars; you can purchase prints and many other things artist create to stay afloat. They can be affordable. Art is something that increases in value with time so it is an investment; so get going!

Go to art fairs;  I am not talking about flea markets!! You can find some good things there but I am talking about art fairs where artist are showing their work. This work is from their souls and it tells a story and documents a time that will be placed in the archives of time.

So please go out to the Armory show, it is going on until this Sunday. Its being held at Piers 92 and 94, that’s at 55th street in Manhattan. UBC-TV Lands Deals with Roku and Amazon Prime; The State of Media and Tech

 

Happy 2017 EVERYONE!  This will be a very interesting year indeed.  New regulations in media and business. It’s indeed the wild west.  2016 was a very unusual year but it was a groundbreaking year for my company UBC-TV.   Besides the heartbreaking losses of many icons and legends and the stressful election; I can say the year was good.   If anyone knows anything about me; I am committed to expressing creativity that is not in a box.  Too many companies do the same ole same ole and it has become boring to most people. What I saw in 2016 was a lean towards more diversity in story telling and the way stories are told.  Also more openness to getting new producers and talent into the mix.

I feel the world has kind of caught up with me in some ways. I have for years talked about multi-platforms before they became sexy.  Now we are in fact in a multi-platformed world. So exciting yet only at its beginning.  Time will tell what new companies emerge and what companies fold. It’s for sure that brands and  media companies who continue to do their business in a box will not survive the new world of the way things are evolving into. The customer is now the one who has the power to choose and companies are now being called out for things that in the past would not even register.  I attended many high level corporate gatherings last year where there were many white haired men and women from legacy companies in the room looking for answers on how to retain their market share and capture the elusive ‘millennial market’.  I am happy that they are getting it…. finally.  At CES they always say, ‘Innovate or Die’. This past CES hit records as now technology and the Internet of Things are catching on and consumers are now demanding choice and access to content, goods and services when and where they choose and on multiple platforms.  It’s a bit exhausting on some levels because there is so much choice; which I feel will shake out soon. Also depends upon how the FCC changes the rules with the new administration. Pai has been chosen to lead the FCC so the playing field will get drastically smaller which means less choice for some. I am sure we independents will find a way to overcome that. I am an advocate for a more open internet.  But that will be seen and it will not happen without a fierce fight; as with many other things.  What it has done is opened and leveled the field.  As cable channels now run to OTT and other platforms; it has opened up a great need for diversity of content and programming.

Finally the industry gets that the world and that this country is one that is diverse with tastes that run the gammit.   Consumers are no longer satisfied with the same old story, cast with the same old formulas where we see no people of color, no women in strong roles and no LGBTQ characters. Shows like ‘This is Us’ and ‘Modern Family’ have changed the landscape and companies like Netflix, Apple and Google has pushed the envelope into a new reality of which the old gate keepers now have to LET GO of the door and let others come in. Some are doing it willingly and others are still in the old control mode. Either way, the change is upon us and it is a good thing. Mobile phones are now our new offices and computers. So where do we go from here? As Ralph Kramden said in the ‘Honey Mooners’, to the MOON ALICE!!  LOL!

That being said; I am happy to announce that my company UBC-TV has landed deals with Roku and Amazon Prime!  We will deliver original content in various ways; on demand and via channels worldwide on multiple platforms that will include television.  The deals don’t end there. We are in talks with a other major content distributors that will be announced as the deals are completed.  I am very excited as this gives me the playing field to create some really great original programming and to cut deals with really great content providers that others are passing by.  Content is King and Queen. Period. It’s the life blood of any media company or network.  In the next few months you will see UBC-TV take its steps out into the spotlight. I have been working tirelessly to pull the things together that have to be done in order to make this sort of move.  It’s not as easy as it may seem; I am sure a lot of my colleagues agree with me. But its gives me great satisfaction to be able to create and distribute to audiences that are hungry to see themselves as the hero and the heroines; finally.  We plan on doing our soft launch this spring and marching onward and making announcements about our line-up.  Our website will offer a more engaging experience as we move forward with implementing new technology and experiences for our subscribers.  I have had a lot of time and experiences to shape and mold this vision. I have seen others fail and I have seen others succeed. Now it is time to move on to the next level for UBC-TV. I am always learning more and more about myself through numbers. Everything in the world and the universe is based upon numbers; that is why its so important for us to get our kids into math and the sciences at an early age.   Lloyd Strayhorn has done that and more. Numbers and You 2017 Predictions

2017 the year of the number 1

 

The year 2017, is the start of a brand-new 9 cycle for everyone, all over again.  Thus 2017, when adding the four numbers across (2+0+1+7 = 10; 1+0 = 1), adds to a 1 Universal Year. By definition, the word Universal means that each of us are likely to experience of the number 1. . .but to a greater of lesser degree.  Astrologically, the signs of Leo, Aquarius and Aries are likely to be this year’s favorite out of the group.  Numerically, those born on the 1^st, 10^th, especially, 19^th or 28^th of any month are likely to be this year’s favorite as well.

Astrologically, those under the signs of Capricorn, Taurus and Libra may find 2017 a bit more challenging, , ,all depending on their Personal Year cycle, a method of adding your month and date of birth, to the present year.  Numerically, those born on the 6^th, 8^th, 15^th, 17^th, 24^th, and 26^th may find 2017 a bit more challenging as well.

2017, being the year of the number 1, says just that!  The 2017 is the year to look out for number 1. . .that’s YOU. When does 2017 actually start?

 

In numerology and astrology there is what as it known as a cusping period.  It a time when one beings to feels to energy or shift in the scheme of things.  Take the period of day into night.   There is a period when the sun begins to rise into the day, when the sun begins to set and gradually moves into night.  So it is with the Universal Year according to Numerology and Astrology.  That is, around the period of late September into October, the energy of 2017 begins to come into play.  It’s like going to a movie to see the main attraction, but you see “trailers” first.  Like the example, by the time January of 2017 enters officially at 12:01am, the energy is in full affect and the cosmic show begins.

You’ll likely to find the cosmic winds of 2017 at your back, Aries. This makes this year easier to get what you want, faster and in a more productive way. CES UNVEILED NEW YORK SHOWCASES THE NEXT NEW IN TECHNOLOGY

 

 

CES Unveiled

CES Unveiled gave us a peek of what is to come in the big show in January 2017. CES has been the show that has led the way in what’s hot in technology and what the big NEXT will be.  As we see technology is not only about our phone anymore. It has evolved and has become a part of our daily lives. We are now living a ‘connected life’ so to speak.  With all of this connectivity comes  great opportunities for new and emerging companies to disrupt and to take things to another level.

CES Unveiled happens to also be right before the holiday buying season and gives us all the excitement we need to get out there and get our electronic gadgets.

The show featured over 25 companies, many who have won CES Innovation Awards for 2017.  Some were Picobrew; a really great home brewing beer device that gives you several choices of beer to brew in under an hour or less. Bosch keeps innovating. Go Plug Bags were a great product- its the worlds first smart powerbank that charges anything. Bot Factory was a cool company and dont forget the VR camera company Sphericam.   The Internet of Things is growing as we consumers have less time and more to do.

Why I Vote And So Should You!

 

 

YOUR VOTE COUNTS

I am voting on November 8th and so should  you.  You have to be involved in the process in order to make change.  This has been a very intense, violent and angry election. I am so shocked but part of me is not shocked. It’s a tale of two reactions.  I am shocked that so much hate still exists in this country; another part of me is not so shocked.  Maybe it’s just I hoped that humans would have evolved a bit more than what I am seeing.  This country definitely has many issues of race, sexuality, the glass ceiling and other things. We are a democratic country with a slave mentality.  It’s very bipolar.

There has to be a great healing in order to move forward. I feel it begins with communication and admission of the horrors that have been done.  It takes people embracing culture of others, building bridges instead of walls; giving everyone the opportunity to grow, expand and take advantage of opportunities to be the best they can be. Not just a select few or the very wealthy.  It also means taking a look at real history; not the select history that is chosen to be in the history books. There is a Living History in every one of us waiting to be told. There are many people of many races and cultures that helped this country to become what it is but few are even acknowledged.

The voting rights act has been amended and changed to look like something of a nightmare. Why do we have to continue to vote on extensions? It is unfair and totally biased for this to have to continue to be voted on.

Nevertheless, our ancestors died to give us the opportunity to cast our vote on how and who runs the country and its officials on all levels from City, State and Federal. We must remember that if we want to change how the police or any official treats us, we need to vote on all levels including Midterm Elections not just National Elections. Judges, Commissioners, District Attorneys all have to be elected. If we want to make changes we need to be aware of who is running and their backgrounds; do your research.  We have to stop pointing fingers and do the work that has to be done in order to make this world a better place.   We must practice what we say on Sunday in church or in our mediation or whatever your spiritual choices are. It begin with Love. Simple but not so it seems.

I know that this election is very important and I am in it to win it. To do my part in making choice and not just complaining about what is wrong.  I hope you are too. No matter who you vote for at least get out there and cast it. I am praying that the world can come together and stop this racism, hate, separation and dysfunction that I have seen grow over the past few years. This year I have seen it intensify.   I feel there are good people in this country who believe in coming together and not apart. I feel confident that we are a strong people and will get through this stressful time and get on a better track. The people who hate are full of fear and insecurity. They believe that hate rules and fear is the tool to use to get the results they want and need.  I believe in love and I believe that we shall overcome this time and move into a new era. On that note I am voting and you should too. Lets come together and make this world a better place for all.

ON DEMAND SUMMIT DELIVERS WHATS NEXT IN CONTENT DELIVERY

The landscape is changing everyday it seems. The offerings of new content distributors have the majors in a tailspin. They now must innovate or become not relevant. The ON DEMAND SUMMIT did just that.  Michael Paull VP of Digital Video for Amazon discussed what Amazon is doing and what they have on the drawing board.

Amazon has done wonders in diversifying their content. They are expanding the lineup  to satisfy the current customer base and to bring in more subscribers.  The discussion was also centered around monetizing content and marketing. Mr. Paull is very excited and direct about what Amazon is doing with their content plays. They are a major player.

Stephen Meyer VP of Video Strategy for Comcast. Comcast has always been in the thick of convergence. The Xfinity brand is bringing TV Everywhere to all of their customers across all platforms. Its gives the customer the ability to see their content when and how they want to see it. Comcast is a major player on many levels but they love innovation and it keeps them on top.

Roku, Vubiquity, iDemand were among the many media companies in attendance at the summit. It was an eye opening experience for me and to be among so many decision makers was wonderful.  I got the words from the guys and gals who are the leaders in the way we will see content for the future. Of course I put my 2 and 3 cents in!

Everyone is now finally speaking with one another about how we can all work together in the future. This is the wild west and a new frontier and we all need to be involved in how we are going to work together. The consumer is now the big boss. The content creators, hardware makers, distributors and all the additional players have to work together now.

I feel this is a good thing. The gate keepers of old are having to rethink their plans and be more inclusive of culture, diversity of staff and allowing the stories that have not been told in the past be told now.

More on this to come as things take shape and roll out. We know now that AT&T wants to buy Time Warner. We shall see how that turns out. Let me know how you feel about the proposed merger.

ON DEMAND SUMMIT

New York City Television And Video Week Will Feature Virtual Reality Day!

 

 

The complexity of the television industry is not one for the faint of heart. Today you have numerous companies that have become distributors and with streaming becoming the choice of viewers, the old way is ending and a new era is beginning. This could not be a better time for the New York City Television and Video Week to come into the market to help us make sense of all this convergence.

The show will kick off Monday October 17 with a new entry added called Virtual Reality 20/20 day. It will feature the top minds and leading companies that are entering into the space of VR and Augmented Reality.

The B&C Hall Of Fame Event will be held and the Waldrof  Astoria and will feature the top names in the business.

During the week will be the NEXT/TV Summit, Advanced Advertising and ending with the HISPANIC TELEVISION SUMMIT one of my favorite events. I remember attending the very first one of these and it has expanded and grown as the industry has.

The Democrats have taken Philadelphia by storm. The Democratic National Convention is taking off and the first night was power packed with speaker after speaker that made the case for Hillary Clinton to become the first woman President of the United States of America.

The day was filled with controversy as with most things on a political level. The email hack and leak of emails that were focused on Bernie Sanders were cause for Debbie Wasserman, CEO of the DNC to resign. The hack is still suspect and the timing of it is very interesting. Some say it was Russia but others will disagree and said it was Donald Trump’s people attempt to divide and cast a cloud over the Convention.

The day begin in some chaos but was rescued by a stellar lineup of star power of the likes of Al Franken, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, First Lady Michelle Obama and Senator Bernie Sanders.

First Lady Michelle Obama stole the show with a delivery only Michelle Obama could do. She made a strong case for a Hillary Clinton Presidency. She had the crowd on its feet and you could hear a pin drop! I had the great pleasure of being on the convention floor and the blessing to witness history and herstory. It was ELECTRIC!!

Mrs Obama will be missed once President Obama leaves office. She has been one if not the most awesome First Ladies ever!! The floor was filled with love and support for her and it was a wonderful experience.

This is my first Convention so I am soaking it up and also a very critical time in the history of our country. We are in a crisis on many levels and the campaign by Donald Trump has created a division between Americans. It has inflamed hate and feelings of separation.  Elizabeth Warren’s speech was so clear on what the differences between a Donald Trump Presidency and a Hillary Clinton Presidency would be.  They are in stark contrast to one another. Its like Trump is Darth Vader and Hillary is the Jedi Master.  We must choose the Dark side of the Force or the Light side.  We are in the midst of making a choice that will affect our country and the world for decades.

Cory Booker was passionate as he spoke.  He included some of our legendary figures like Martin Luther King, Maya Angelou and other great that have gone before us.

Bernie Sanders did something that most people thought he may not have done in light of the news earlier in the day; he not only endorsed Hillary Clinton as President, he stated the reasons why and also that he and Hillary have come to terms on a revolutionary platform that will transform our country!  They make a dynamite pair! Bernie brought the party together. There are still some Bernie supporters who do not like Hillary but we are now in a situation where we live or die. Its just that plain and intensely serious. Our future is in our hands and we must move now to protect and save our world or it will not be around on many levels.

Bernie also gave credit to his followers and to the contributors and the revolution he has created to actually help the American people who are suffering the most. I was so happy and proud to be in the midst of all of that energy and love. To see Bernie Sanders supporters and Hillary Clinton supporters begin to come together. It was a beautiful thing to witness. I just wished it had happened before last night; but we are not too  late.

The other things I love about this new progressive platform is that for the first time they are taking on sentencing laws, mental health, addiction, small business and many other things that have not ever been included in any platform before.

Its a good thing. That gives me hope that we can create something new out of the ending of this era as we know it because it is the end of things as we know it. So get ready for it and get out and vote and tell everyone who you know to vote. A no vote is a vote for the Trump agenda and that is a scary thing. If you do not vote you will get what you deserve.

There are no words from me that I can say about how devastated I am over the death of PRINCE. I am putting together something in my own words and will publish it soon but I have to come to terms with this first. This was quite unexpected and the mystery surrounding his death makes things even more intense.

Lloyd Strayhorn is a top astro numerologist and has appeared on numerous national radio talk shows and on national television shows like Oprah Winfrey.  He is very good at what he does and has this 6th sense about you. Its more than the numbers, he actually has the ‘GIFT’ of seeing into the soul.

THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW IS ON!

Hello everyone,

One of my favorite things I look forward to in March is New York International Auto Show. This year is no exception.  The auto industry is one of the major bright spots in the U.S. Economy and is an industry that helps determine consumer spending and how healthy the economy is. I can say that people are buying cars and will continue to purchase mainly because cars have now become a ‘Lifestyle’. Technology has had a lot to do with that.  Cars are not only for getting from one place to another; they are for LIVING and enjoyment. Technology has enabled the most modest car buyer to experience the hottest technology including WIFI hot spots and many other luxuries that had been only available to the high end car buyer. You can actually live in your car now.  The Self Driving cars are on the move and will be ready soon.

The SUV is alive and kicking. Major luxury lines are coming out with their own SUV this year and next year. Bentley is one of those brands. Rolls Royce is working on one, Volvo has a awesome SUV and Maserati has an SUV!!!  Times have changed and are changing in the auto world.  Auto’s and Technology are coming together to take us all to the next level of experience.

The NY International Auto Show does not disappoint, get out there! It’s on until April 3rd. And do not forget the DUB show. It’s hot and they added Motorcycles last year. Its a day of fun, education and dreaming and testing that new car you have been wanting to check out! I have done my own research and have a few options for my next new babies. This time I will have to get 2 cars and a truck.!! LOL!  The trucks are downstairs and they have some beauties. Be sure not to miss them!
